Let´s Think About Livin´! : Melissa Luman Phillips

The Shadows, cantamos “Let’s Think About Livin’”.

Johnny y June vinieron rápidamente a casa y ¡dios mío!. Nos dieron una buena lección.

A: ¡Entrañables recuerdos!.

A: Muchas gracias, Melissa.

Let´s Think About Livin´! : Melissa Luman Phillips. A Daughter´s Memories

Bob Luman, a Music Icon, a Rockabilly Legend who started singing at age 13, he left us a greatest Music Legacy. Luman was inducted into Rockabilly Hall of Fame and Texas Country Hall of Fame, today, his daughter Melissa Luman Phillips who keeps Bob Luman’s Memory alive will talk to us about her Dad

A: Melissa, thank you very much for conceding me this interview. What memories do you have with your Father?
Melissa Luman Phillips: I have very fond memories...although he was on the road a lot my mom and I sometimes went with him. He loved his garden, his golf and his family.

A: Why did Bob leave baseball?
Melissa Luman Phillips: Not sure he chose to leave it. The music career was probably a bit more exciting.

A: Did he tell you about his memories at Louisiana Hayride with The Shadows?
Melissa Luman Phillips: No, we never discussed that as I was 12 when he died, but I did get to accept his Award in Carthage Texas when he was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame and sang with some of his original Shadows band behind me...we did “Let’s Think About Livin’”.

A: And about Town Hall Party?
Melissa Luman Phillips: No, but I have the Bear Family set and it is awesome!!

A: What was his favourite time, Louisiana Hayride, Imperial Records, Town Hall Party, Capitol Records, Warner Bros or Grand Ole Opry?
Melissa Luman Phillips: Well... not sure... he loved his Rockabilly days and told Mac Curtis no long before he died that he planned to do a Rockabilly album... he simply loved it... but he also loved how good Country music was to him and the Grand Ole Opry as well.

A: Can you tell us about your memories on Caudill Dr. in Nashville?
Melissa Luman Phillips: Oh there are sooo many... we lived across the street from Roy Orbison, and Johnny Cash lived across and down a bit. Helen Carter of the Carter sisters lived up the street behind us. Mr and Mrs Ray Cash lived next door... Mr. and Mrs. Orbie Orbison lived rigth next to them... they were great days... a great street and a great neighbourhood.

A: What do you remember about your life near the Orbisons and the Cashs?
Melissa Luman Phillips: Well, Wesley Orbison rode his motorcycle every day and it was LOUD. And John Carter Cash and I were play buddies. I went to school with them as well. Every time Mawma Cash (that's what I called her) baked her famous banana bread... she's call and tell me to come next door and get my loaf she baked just for me and my mom. And I'll never forget John Carter and I sneaking out of his house one day to go jump on the trampoline (I was the only one tall enough to unlock the top lock) went outside, the maids couldn't find us, they freaked out big time. Johnny and June rushed home and boy oh boy! did we both get a talking to.

A: Great memories!. Is it easy to manage your job and to keep Bob Memory alive?
Melissa Luman Phillips: Yes, because I still live in Hendersonville, and thanks to new technologies, and people like you who remember him, it is easy.

A: Thank you very much, Melissa. To conclude this interview, do you want to say something to Bob Luman´s fans?
Melissa Luman Phillips: I would like to say thank you to the fans, the DJ´s and everyone out there who continues to keep my Dad’s memory alive through his music. He was one Cool Cat!. I recently filmed Country´s Family Reunion, Second Generation for RFDTV, the video is available through the website. Countrys Family Reunion. It is an amazing 4 hour show with all of us kids of the Opry and we all sing our parents songs and tell stories.

Bob was one of the greatest showmen I ever knew, and one of the truest friends. When I built a theater outside Branson in 1977 he came up and did a show with me in the middle of the summer. I took him fishing and as hot as it was, he kept saying he was cold. A year later we lost him and I still miss him. It was way too early to lose such a friend." Stan Hitchcock
